this is a sensual book. even landscape is described as sensually as capote's other voices other rooms, but unlike that book, its a romance, and straightforward as they come. i think this is the most straightforward novel i have ever read. a large part of this book is about community although its also a great deal about romance and prayer and hard work and and the rewards of those, so i doubt i would like this book if it weren't so good. but i read it in a sitting. given, i am interested in japan, so i recommend it if you are also, but this book must be good to make such mundane straightforward topics so interesting.
