This books started off a little slow, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. It was very suspensful and kept you guessing to the very end.

Taken place in New Orleans right after Katrina, it weaves the storyline of the after effects of the storm into the story. Captain O'Shay lost her husband Sammy right after the storm as he is murdered. Originally, it's assumed that it's looters, but later his badge and gun turns with with another victim that has her hand severed. (A fridge was emptied post Katrina and 5 hands were found). The plot is pretty complex, and the mystery is great. You are introdcued to some great characters.....A 50 something widow cop (with no children), a 20 something stripper who has had a tortured past, The widow cops nephews and some of her friends and family.

Don't let the slow start discourage you, it's worth the time.
