A lot of fun, and a great introduction to the world which Spawn inhabits and to the characters. Some hackneyed writing is overcome by an emotional quality and the hideous beauty of the artwork, as well as the compelling stories. I don't know if I'd ever consider this a sophisticated comic, but it's a good one.

This trade paperback contains the first five issues.
