What a well-crafted tale! The Curse of Chalion appeared seemingly randomly as one of my holds at the library. I could not remember ever seeing the title or author's name, let alone placing the hold.

Intrigued, I thought I'd give it a shot. Chalion is my first foray into the world of adult fantasy. It took me forever to get through it too. (I guess my brain has atrophied reading juvenile literature all the time.)

I'm so glad I stuck it out. Bujold invents a world with it's own geography, religions, languages, cultures, etc. without compromising character development or story line. The Curse of Chalion is one of those stories that leaves you thinking 'how the hell did she come up with that?' It also leaves you feeling like you know the characters personally and you want to know what happens next. What a great combination!
