Sort of YA low maintenance Shogun with a bit of mystical ninja action thrown in. Really enjoyable read, I could see myself going for the sequels at some point. Im a bit mystified by reviews slagging it for not being authentic Japanese culture when its fiction about a made up, Japan-like country. Its a fantasy novel for goodness sake. Actualy not being a Japanese culture expert by any means and only having Shogun as a comparison, it seemed pretty close to the culutre portrayed in detail by Clavell. Fiefs, Lords, strict Hierachical society, arranged political marriages, honour and politesse, offical hostages. I dont normaly do fantasy stuff, but actually I did kind of enjoy the ninja superpowers!.
