This is such a brisk, inventive and joyful book. Calvino is more well-known for his experiments with structure in fiction, like in Invisible Cities and If on a winter's night a traveler but this one is in pretty traditional form. This book gave the same euphoric feeling of discovery I last felt when I was a child and new books were the greatest thing on Earth. I know that sounds corny, but it's the truth. I love this little book.
