Read in March, 1999

I read this book while I was living in Ohio. That made it all the more interesting because it is a historical novel about the first settlers in what is now Ohio. It was a wonderful way to live through this period of time when there were no ipods or e-mail.

Dawn This book looks interesting--glad to get your recommendation. I've heard of the author, but never read anything by him. When I was in Ohio, I really liked a children's book we found called Nothing Here But Trees by Jean Van Leeuwen. It really portrayed how it felt to be pioneers in Ohio surrounded by a great dark forest. You might like it, too. Van Leeuwen has also written several other good children's books about historical times/places.
