Have you ever wanted to know more about Michael Crichton? I did – which is why I read this book. Travels is a well written book which chronicles the life of Michael Crichton up until around 1985. It follows him through med school and all of his professional life. Unfortunately he does not include any reference to his family and only briefly mentions his wife, divorce, and girl friends. Through this book I’ve learned that Michael is very open to learning and trying new things. He became heavily involved in new age spirituality and psychic readings. Even though he was involved in these areas he always seemed to hold a keen sense of logic – constantly testing, questioning and at times rejecting what he saw. I appreciated his structured approach to spirituality and psychics but in the end I learned more than I wanted about an author I admire. Maybe it’s not a good thing to blindly admire someone – but in this case I disagree.
