Sometimes you read a book because you're at your parents' house and there's nothing else there. Your brother warns you that it's awful. You start reading it and every page is like taking a pencil to your eye just to try to lobotomize yourself and you just can't stop. You're "learning" stuff about Opus Dei, a self flagellating Catholic sect with all the secrets of the universe! Mary Magdalene is actually in DaVinci's Last Supper! You have to know what happens. Then it ends and you can tell all your coworkers that you finished the DaVinci code and they don't think you're such a freak because you brought Madame Bovary to work once.
