This book was much better (and shorter!) than I expected it to be. They're actually full-fledged fairy tales, moral and all, set in the wizarding world. JKR mentions in the preface that the Beedle the Bard tales, unlike Muggle fairy tales, are set in a world where magic is normal, rather than being the force that sets up the conflict or the results. Knowing this going into the stories, it was interesting to see how Rowling has come up with conflicts that don't just revolve around magic being used for evil.
