an interesting compendium of vignettes about the early glory days of a calvinist massachusetts. mostly john winthrop and a hodgepodge cast of characters who make up the puritan founding fathers and the fucking long road to ho they signed up for. sarah is adorable, as expected, having what i call the sedaris effect of smiling and maybe smirking through the whole thing, but not ever really LOLing. but obviously sedaris is shit, and sarah digs history = sarah is awesome. pick this up and learn something, if not new, than interesting.
