I think this would have been 4 stars if I hadn't already read so much about the food issues discussed here; there was nothing earth shattering in the book about industrial agriculture and the food industry. However, Mark Bittman's writing (as anyone who reads his columns in the New York Times knows) is very enjoyable. I think (hope) he will be convince some more people to make better choices about their food if they can. The recipe section of this book was the most valuable part for me. It is a great reference for preparing healthy and sustainable food when you don't have a ton of time to make something time-consuming but don't want to resort to packaged food. Most of the recipes use inexpensive ingredients as well.
