An interesting display of how the West used to view the Oriental.
This book takes a lot from Arabian Nights, and yet weaves itself into an interesting story exploring magic, gender roles, the relationship between nature and the sciences, and somewhat disturbingly, the perception of objects as human-like and humans as objects.
