>> Poignant to see the ways that his strip provided an emotional refuge for his relational anxieties. Disappointing to see that same refuge hinder his emotional growth in real life relationships, particularly his first marriage. My appreciation for his work remains unchanged, but my view of Schulz as a person has been altered quite a bit. A fascinating read.

> I heard about this book last year. It received a lot of press in its initial hardcover release. (Is it strange that hardcovers feel uncomfortable to read? Too unwieldy.)

Schulz is a big, big figure for me. I remember devouring Peanuts collections at the library as a child, searching for any volumes I'd missed. In retrospect, the sweet, melancholic tone was very helpful for what felt difficult and isolating in my own childhood environment. Reviews described Michaelis' work as both "honest" and "warm", which seems true of what I've read thus far.
