So. I'm kinda (very) torn about this book. I really liked Twilight- felt like I could relate to characters, thrilling plot, interesting ideas about vampires, couldn't put it down... Sadly, the only thing this book has in common is it somehow draws you in, even when everything that's happening is annoying. However, I have to give props to Stephenie Meyer- she is really really good at getting her vision across and keeping you hooked.

Bella? What is up with her?! In the first book, she seemed more like a shy, klutz that just happens to be beautiful, with a hint of "damsel in distress". In New Moon, her distress is COMPLETELY in your face, and I got really irritated by her. This girl is just helpless and I cannot relate. She is also sooooo bipolar. I cannot relate. She is soooooo over-dramatic. I just can't relate! Puts no importance on planning for her future. Must I say it again? It's also frustrating that her character never really develops.

Come to think of it, none of them do...

At least Meyer keeps them acting consistently. Edward continues to be over-protective and easily angered. I kinda liked the break from him and welcomed easy-going Jacob (until he became an angry ware-wolf)

Another thing that kind of bothered me is this book was laid out almost exactly like Twilight. The first half of the book, Bella is trying to figure out something that is painfully obvious to the reader (even though it is never said outright until she finally gets it) and then some exciting, dangerous event takes place that you annoyingly must find out how it resolves before you can live your life. I really hope the next book doesn't follow the same template.

That being said, I still plan to finish reading the series, for better or worse.
