I spent the first 30 or 40 pages being slightly annoyed and confused by this book, and I was just looking for a good place to stop reading and move on to something else. By page 50 or 60, I realized I didn't want to stop, and the darn thing kept me up until 2:30 a.m. finishing it.

If readers are patient enough to get the names and relations straight and wait for some confusing aspects to clarify, it is a thoroughly engrossing story that's part boarding school, part Lord of the Flies, part Romeo and Juliet, all wrapped up in a mystery of an unresolved past coming full circle and resolving at last.
