Wintergirls is the haunting story of Lia, a young woman struggling with a severe eating disorder. Her career driven parents, their divorce, her father's quick remarriage, a broken friendship and multiple stays at a rehab facility all shape who Lia has become. Estranged from her mother, Lia moves in with her father, step mother and step sister. Stuggling with her own recovery she learns that her ex best friend has died alone in a motel room. The ghosts from her past begin haunting her and leading her closer and closer to facing her own demons. With books on eating disorders in short supply, this will be a welcome addition to many collections. Though some readers may be uncomfortable with the explicit details, the book is well written, face paced and its resonant characters will stick with readers long after they put down the book.
