It makes sense to me that this surrealist tale was published in 1955, but it took 40 years for it to be published in English.

I read this book for my infamous "Sex and Death" English writing class at CCA, taught by Mr. J. Acosta (who is from Mexico City). It sure did fit the theme of the class. I don't think you can say that this book has a happy ending, so don't read it while really depressed.

This book is best read a little out of focus. If you are a control freak who must know the who's and what's all the way though, just don't bother. While it is fun to connect the plot dots, don't get too obsessed with that and you'll see why.

I like the way this book only loosely follows the initial main character. The reader has something solid to hold on to only as long as he does. The story bounces from character to character in the way that voices carry on a hot summer night.
