Wowsers. Pamela Clare is a force to be reckoned with. Intelligent characters in a gritty, realistic setting and who have fantastic chemistry from the moment they meet. This does not happen everyday! But when it works, by golly, it works.

The attention to detail is pretty staggering, and I appreciate that Clare, who has years of journalism experience behind her, has made the great effort in keeping her story and her characters authentic, with weaknesses and strengths, vulnerabilities and familiarities. More importantly the protagonists are likable and the antagonists are not. Such as it should be.

Reece and Kara have uber-sexy tension, marred but ultimately strengthened by their professional relationship as senator and journalist, respectively. Add in the cliff-hanging, rather aggressive mystery sub-plot, and you've got an edgy, touching and gripping read.
