it was amazing

It can't be easy to write a sequel to a Newbery Medal winner, with all those high expectations to meet, but Susan Patron has done a beautiful job with LUCKY BREAKS, her follow-up to THE HIGHER POWER OF LUCKY, and I find myself getting to know and love Lucky all over again.

This book comes with the same pitch-perfect, lyrical language as the first, with some new twists. Lucky is eleven now, and she's beginning to ask more questions about life, about her relationship with Lincoln, about that box in front of Sammy's house, and about just who she is. A new character spices things up, too. Paloma, who shows up with a bunch of visiting geologists, connects with Lucky in a whole new best-friends kind of way. Readers who loved THE HIGHER POWER OF LUCKY with love her all the more in this next installment.
