On those days when I'm feeling sorry for myself I can now say, 'Hey, it could be worse, you could have been Mary, Queen of Scots. Wow, was this depressing! I know, I know... It was obvious from the beginning that Mary's story would not end well, but still, I felt the urge to lecture the people in the book: 'Don't do it, Mary!' or 'Be nice, Elizabeth!' I usually like the author's historical details, but there wasn't so much of that in this book. I also think that it was repetitive and drawn out two hundred pages too long. Tragedy in literature is good when it has pathos, but I found myself irritated by, rather than sorry for the characters. This time, I think Philippa Gregory fell short of her subject matter.
Don't even get me started on 'Fallen Skies'.
There is a bright side to reading a disappointing novel, however: I'm not Mary Queen of Scots...

Ruth Hyland I tried reading this book and couldn't get into it. I'm glad to hear i didn't miss much.

Shima I completely agree with this: "I found myself irritated by, rather than sorry for the characters".
I too found it repetitive and sort of had to force myself to finish it (since everyone already knows how it ends)
