urban anthropologists, hubert selby jr fans
Read in January, 2006
this book is very, very, very sad. good, but very sad. a very sad vietnam vet pays very sad prostitutes to tell him their memories, and then he reimagines the memories as the experiences of one imaginary prostitute named gloria. i was always reluctant about vollman because i'd heard nothing but dirt, and this is right up there with hubert selby jr's last exit to brooklyn, which is right up there with hubert selby jr's requiem for a dream. which are also good books but very, very, very sad.
