Best book on the Civil War I've read, and not exceptionally long (not by non-fiction war work standards anyway), this covers the background and major action of the War Between the States, effectively discussing the politics, the people, and the battles. Fascinating and educational, this is a great starting point for someone serious about learning about the Civil War. Once you're done, you'll better understand the war as a whole, and will know what to study next, should you desire to dig deeper.
