To say that this book is weird and unsettling doesn't even begin to capture the creepy feeling you get reading it and just as Juan Preciado begins to find layers and layers of things he doesn't understand as he goes through the town, I'm not sure I got all of what was in this book. This is a definite re-read. (I can also see how Garcia-Marquez was greatly inspired by this book. It may have kicked off the whole Magical Realism movement in Latin-American literature.)
