I can't say I was crazy about this book but it was good enough for me not to put down. I think what really bugged me was that it is supposed to be this great love story yet I couldn't really get into the main characters or their love story...I didn't even root for them after a while. I began liking the Shuyu, Lin's simple peasant wife instead, infact I think I liked her more from the beginning.
Couple of interesting points though, I've never read about the Cultural Revolution (Gen Mao) before so that was intriguing...couldn't believe how restricted the medical professionals were in this hospital/college dorm environment.
**Spoiler alert** I did think the story really started becoming interesting towards the end when the love affair was finally consummated with marriage...sad that Lin and Manna didn't really know why they were in 'love' all these years.
