Awesome Middle Ages historical fiction. Guiltily read this book while my husband built a deck on our house. If you like European architecture (which I do) this is a fascinating read on how the churches and cathedrals were built. Follett was able to interweave several storylines about the people who caused these monstrous buildings to be constructed. From the contractors and villagers, to the monks and priests. It also gave a glimpse about the power and influence the church had over the kings, the laws and everyday of life. I do NOT think I would enjoy living in the Middle Ages.
