bookshelves: mystery-and-suspense

I love this whole series set in early 1900s New York City. In each book in the series, Sarah Brandt helps detective Sergeant Frank Malloy solve a murder mystery. Sarah is a fiesty lady who defies the conventions of her upper class upbringing by becoming a midwife and helping the middle class and poor people of New York.
