** spoiler alert ** Wow...well, I cursed my friend Sarah for recommending this as a book club book. I sobbed through the final chapters. I do praise Genova for so completely creating a character. I felt I was in Alice's head as I read...which I suppose was the point. I felt so helpless as she felt helpless, and I found myself mourning her loss of identity, and I felt such anguish at the end...that she seemed so happy yet didn't recongize her own daughters as hers. I think the mother part of me ached, as it always does when I read stories that involve the pains of motherhood.
