really liked it
bookshelves: magical-realism, dreamlike, not-what-i-expected, great-until-the-end

My copy is autographed by the man himself *disgustingly smug smile*

The book starts slowly. I mean so mind-numbingly slowly I lost patience with it and abandoned the whole book for months. Then I tried again. What happened surprised me. Because it wasn't so much the slowness that had deterred me as the seeming "ordinariness" of the events surrounding Miranda, even the character of Miranda herself. Yet Carroll knows how to weave in his weirdness and it quickly usurped my low expectations. It was quite wonderful, really, up until the end. The man has a problem with endings, let me tell you... Give the book a chance, otherwise. It's worth it.
