it was amazing
bookshelves: classic, favorites

I don't give a rat's ass about whether this is supposed to be chick lit. That's a narrow view of this really funny book that's a satire on the stupidity of social classes, human behavior and traditional plot lines in literature. Some critic said it's impossible to adapt this book into a movie because you can't show all the different levels of irony in the dialogue, characterization and storyline. I think that's probably true. It's so subtly woven into the structure that a lot of it is easy to miss and allows you to mistake certain aspects for a literal interpretation of what's happening. The rest of Jane Austen's books don't measure up at all, and I'm not sure what happened, but this is good shit.
