Fascinating look at the life of Dr. Paul Farmer. Most of us live in the middle. But he lives at the two extremes and seems to manage this tension easily. On one hand, Farmer serves as a world-class physician at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston where he conducts research, raises awareness and attracts money. During the other half of his year, Farmer typically lives in Haiti where he cares for those with TB.

What I admire most about Farmer, and I share this almost weekly, is his ability to hold these two lifestyles in tension. Some hang out in the ivory tower, the land of theory and cleanliness. Others pour themselves out to care for a hand full cases never able to see the larger picture. Farmer seems to live the best of both worlds.
