I'm not sure why I marked this as having been read back in 2009. I just listened to the Audible version and I've never read this book before.

This is not science fiction. Written and set in the mid 1990s, the book centers on a fad-studying sociologist who works for a scientific research firm. It's mostly a satire of popular culture and office life, with a slow-burning romance thrown into the mix. There are some clever moments: "Why are you studying fads?" "Everyone else is." Ha ha! However, I was annoyed by her being annoyed by nearly everyone around her.

I did get a kick out of her checking the classics out of the public library to make sure they don't get weeded.
