** spoiler alert ** I found Coraline to be mostly creepy as I was reading it. I had nightmares for a couple of nights following though. Now, a few days after finishing, I find myself wanting to read it again.

Neil Gaiman delivers the story with very simple but effective language. I think this is why it didn't scare me initially. It was just so matter-of-fact... it was after I processed a few of the scenes, particularly the one where Coraline goes down to the cellar and as she realizes that something unwanted has followed her back, that I realized how truly sinister and nightmarish this story was.

Really enjoyable.
