Goodman's book moved really slowly for me. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't love it like I have several other recent teen novels. While the pacing was definitely a problem for me, I can't deny that Goodman has the imagination and talent to construct a brilliant new world for the reader. (Though the whole sun/moon energy dichotomy and the like is really beyond my liking.) It's just that sometimes the amount of detail kept me from wanting to rapidly pursue this one. The last third of the novel was where the action really began for me, and it's too bad it took so long to get going. I might be tempted to read the second one, because I really did become intrigued at the end. But if it's as long-winded as this one, I might also pass. We'll see.
