Book 2 in the series. Lex is dealing with the aftermath of her sister's death, her role in it and the fact that she is public enemy number one in Croak. In fact, because of her, all the Juniors are in the doghouse. There is plenty of humor and action here, but "Scorch" is a lot darker than "Croak". On the plus side, we get to visit the glitzy city of DeMyse, spend plenty of time with the quirky characters we've come to love and meet some new ones. On the minus side, they are dropping like flies. Okay, that's an overstatement. But, Damico certainly doesn't have any trouble killing off her characters--which I don't have a problem with necessarily, but too much leaves the reader feeling a bit numb. And the big kill at the end of the book--that's starting to annoy me.
