Read in January, 2009 — I own a copy

This is a very quick read--for me, only 2 or 3 hours. Slapstick is a pretty good title, though I also would have been OK with Farce.

Though this isn't Vonnegut's best work, it reminded me a lot of Mark Twain, though not because of any stylistic similarities; people forget how bitter both of these men became as they grew older. There isn't much here to redeem mankind, so it's the equivalent of eating a lemon: it's occasionally pleasant to have that sour pucker effect, but you wouldn't want all the books you read to be like that.

Daniel All old men become bitter.

Either that or they're senile.

Collin So long as they're not both...
