Timeless. Every time I read it, I imagine a different settings for the fiery wit between Petruchio and Katerina in that first meeting. It always works! Shakespeare is so masterful: today, that whole scene would be summed up with "get a room." No imagination at all. And the reader has to visualize the play within the play to understand the plot machinations, because otherwise you become lost in the Gremios and Grumios, the double Vicentios, poor Christopher Sly who doubts his own identity by the time they are through with him. There's the genius; even if you are only reading it, you automatically see it performed in your head. Sigh.
