it was amazing
bookshelves: travel

When I was a teen, I really wanted to walk the Appalachian Mountain Trail. However, I never got enough courage or ambition to follow the dream. Bill Bryson did. He did a portion of the Trail (it is more than 2,172 miles) without any hiking experience or even proper training in living in the woods. And he did it with a guy he hadn't seen or talked to in ages...just called him out of the blue. And the result is this book, part nature tale, part travelogue, part are-you-completely-deranged narrative. It is very funny in places, but always with enough history to make for plenty "oh wow...I didn't know that" moments.
