This was as much a story of the author's life as the owl's, since O'Brien made such an enormous commitment to Wesley for the entire span of his life.

A few parts in the book made me squirm; if you've read it, you probably know which ones. But I (and the scientific community) learned so much more than I ever would have about barn owls from the author's dedication to this one special bird and her faithful telling of the tale.
