really liked it

Equal parts tender and haunting, this novel kept me up pretty late trying to tear through it. I finished it in about 24 hours, as the pacing kept me plowing through pages (I could make some deeply felt reference to the burning world, but I won't be so tacky). The battle of decency over desperation interested me, and I appreciated how vague McCarthy was about the details of the apocalypse. It would have been too cheesy or else too arguable. I've never been so genuinely frightened for two characters in my life! I was convinced I'd be having nightmares, yet McCarthy only gives you a taste of what exactly is going on in the scenes... it's that talent of being a writer who touches the darkness in your own emotions and psyche, making you do the work of scaring yourself without having to be too gratuitous or cliche. So, yeah... I loved it!
