This book is brilliant. It's also a little dangerous. More than any other book I read, The Outsiders gave me an incredibly romantic view of the "rebel" ideology. Which is fine- really. The underlying messages of the book are about sticking to your principles, helping out your friends and family, and standing up to bigotry and stupidity. It also really underscores the class divide in America that has only gotten worse since the book was written. And it's really, really well written. I recommend it for everyone- but if you're letting a kid read it, make sure that you're having a healthy and constructive discussion around it as well.
