Clive is one of my favorites...however...he knows a 'formula' and doesnt deviate from it much. The Sea Hunters and book II of the same name are non-fiction, and in a way, more enjoyable than some of his last Dirk Pitt stories. Clive uses his financial rewards from his books to fund searchs for historic shipwrecks, plane wrecks, and various other objects with a noteworthy hostorical background. Up front, he will tell you that its a coin toss as to finding anything of import. Rivers that shift their banks after a hundred or so years, word-of-mouth references, and the difference between 'guess-timation' and vague compass headings -vs- todays GPS driven accuracy make a world of difference between a search of miles or of yards.

Clive usually starts off each search story with a little 'fictionalization' of the events that give the story a personal touch, and makes the connection between events of a hundred plus years ago and human behavior today.
