** spoiler alert ** This is actually the best written of Todd's books, but it is still not as good as the least of his mother's (he has taken over writing the series from her). I do not like his move to make the green and blue riders even more gay. I also do not care for his writing about the growing sexuality of his two female, teenage protagonists and did not think that his ending the book with a newly turned 16 year old girl sleeping with a man obviously in his late 30's was appropriate. I stay with the series because of what it used to be, but do not like what he has made of it.

Vicky While I liked the book generally, I have to agree that I found the relationship with Fionna and the older dragonrider (I forget his name) creepy. I can see a young teenage girl having a crush on an older man, it happens all the time. It's the older man reciprocating that doesn't work for me. He'd be in prison!

message 2: by Eiffey (new)

Eiffey Actually, T'mar's only in his late 20s, not 30s. He's still much older than Fiona, but you must remember that this is Pern. Their lifespans are drastically different to our own. Dragons dictate mates in Weyrs most of the time. It's inevitable Talenth will be flown by T'mar's Bronze, so the connection would have been made then anyhow.
