Creates a new framework for analyzing environmental issues. It makes recycling and reducing waste seem sort of silly compared to completely shifting our system of production and output. I just wonder if it is possible to motivate corporations and people to think about their use of products enough to change things.

The western mind views goods as discrete, with a limited shelf-life, rather than something that can be part of a natural system. I liked their point that cultures that have reincarnation as a belief are more likely to understand this new conception of creating goods as part of a natural system. Those that believe in reincarnation easily see how their lives, as well as the goods they use, are part of a cycle.

Westerners, in contrast, believe that we are born, we live, and we die. Similarly, our products are produced, we use them, then we throw them away. It will take quite a shift in thinking to change that!!

A fascinating perspective-shifting book.
