An emotional downer, Lee Woodruff tells the story of a dysfunctional family in all it's distressing glory.
With a touch of magical thinking, we experience the loss of a child through the eyes of a couple whose marriage is already showing cracks. There are also the grandparents, whose own marriage is a deception to all those they love. And the innocent bystanders that are touched/damaged by all of them. Nine-year-old James is strucked down by a teen-age driver one morning as he rides his bicycle to school. His mother, just down the street following him, looked away, just for a minute. The amount of guilt in this book would fill a jewish delicatessen.
