it was refreshing to read a novel set in berlin, before the war, before the separation in east and west.
Christopher Isherwood manages to portray berlin and its many different facades really well, i liked that sort of got a tour around all of berlin, both the wealthy families, the jews, the artists, the working families etc.
Also that some typical things of the time does not play a huge role in the stories, it is important that we know about the nazis and all that, but you we have more focus on the message or the feelings isherwood is sending out by his stories.
i though that this book might easily bore me, but it did not! in no way at all! it was wonderfully authentic and well written and yes, everything!
