freaking amazing. makes me want to "turning japanese". well researched, lots of historical minutia. the best historical fiction i've read. but more importantly, character development. i love how blackthorne turns into anjin-san. the ending is a little disappointing. but if you understand the story i think it makes sense to end it the way it was. you simply must read. don't let a long book intimidate you. this one you'll read faster then a lot of books 1/4 the length.

Michelle Thought this book was great. Gives some pretty interesting observations about Japanese culture specifically the relations between men and women.

J After decades. I still reference this book, via memory, whenever Japan is mentioned.
