I ripped through this book, I found it completely fascinating - the period detail of life in the mid-800's was completely new to me. I liked that Joan moved around to various places and ways of life and you really get to see how a lot of different people lived. The lawlessness and violence takes your breath away.

This is sort of Phillippa Gregory-esque (Other Boleyn Girl), I think the details are probably more fictional and there isn't nearly enough bodice ripping. I do really like the love story, but it's so frustrating!! Totally love Gerold though, I think this was made into a movie at some point, so I need to find out who plays him and decide if I want to see it.

Great book - I will definitely read more by her.

Dayna Fascinating time period (mid-800's) and fascinating woman. Can't wait to read this - it has come highly recommended.

Allison I love the part about not having enough bodice ripping! Great review!
