Too long!! There's some good stuff here, it's all kind of dark and icky and interesting--like the scenes in the subterrenean opium den, oh my. But it all started to feel like a bit of a dirge by the time I was 400 pages in, and still only half way done. I'm not adverse to reading crazy long books, but to be worth it, they really have to justify their length by being extra snappy and page-turny; this one really wasn't. It is certainly creative and well-done, just a bit ponderous.
