I can't really get into this whole idea that mutants feel it's now kill-or-be-killed time and must form a black-ops team to sneak around murdering people. Call me old fashioned. The art from Clayton Crain has style and he certainly knows how to slap up a cool image when it's needed, but his sequential stuff is always muddy (or bloody) and has a weird flat quality that lacks even the slightest background detail.

It earns points for some of the little character moments like Wolverine as an uncomfortable team leader in a lone wolf's body, Rahne struggling with her religious convictions and Warpath trying to convince himself he's as coldblooded as he pretends to be. This spark of depth is the only thing separating it from those totally extreme X-books of the 90s that are better left forgotten.
